Design inspiration in Sun Valley

Looking for design inspiration, I don’t have to look any further than the beautiful mountain area of Sun Valley. Happy to call it my home, nature here provides a canvas for a designer’s eye to explore and discover exciting ideas. Surrounded by incredible vistas and views, it’s easy to take a moment to contemplate my work from a different perspective and gain insight into alternative unknowns.

Rugged mountain terrains like my local mountains keep me in a pensive, contemplative state.

Nature as Inspiration

The most obvious source of creative inspiration in Sun Valley is nature itself. The mountains provide an ever-changing backdrop for all types of media projects, from photography to film to, ultimately for me, graphic design. The changing colors of the sky at dusk or dawn can provide an interesting palette for color theory exploration while the wind blowing through tall grasses can spark ideas of movement and flow within logos or web designs. It’s easy to become slightly overwhelmed with the stunning beauty that surrounds Sun Valley; however, instead of letting it distract me, I try to use it as inspiration.

Exploration as Discovery

However, there is more to finding design inspiration in Sun Valley than just nature. Exploring the streets, art galleries, and shops can open up my eyes to entirely new ideas about style or layout that I may never have considered before. I take some time to wander around Ketchum and Hailey—both towns are full of vibrant boutiques and galleries that display local artwork inspired by both the environment and culture of the area. I never know what type of gems I might stumble upon.

There’s always something going on in my Sun Valley—like the annual Trailing of the Sheep festival. Inspiration for days and days.

Designing with Purpose

Finally, while exploring all that Sun Valley has to offer, I remember I’m are here. I think about what it was that drew me here. Was it the rivers? The mountains? The people? No matter what inspires me most about this place, I take a moment each day to reflect on why I chose this spot as my home and how those reflections will help inform my work now and in the future.

Taking some time away from my work life can give new perspectives on existing projects or inspire entirely new ones. By taking advantage of all that Sun Valley has to offer—its stunning landscape and vibrant culture—I have plenty of opportunities for creative exploration. From discovering exciting new layouts inspired by nature’s majesty to uncovering hidden gems hidden among the towns’ streetscapes; there is something here for everyone seeking out design inspiration in Sun Valley. So I go ahead and take a break from my design work life and explore this wonderful area.
