Blaine County Democrats
Local county political parties have a difficult time in keeping consistent branding—aiding to make local constituents unaware of their existence. After noticing the brand of the national Democratic Party, I figured that it would be good to use the DNC identifier for the local party—with local flair, of course.
This local party's geography includes a plethora of mountains that forge the county as a well-known skiing resort. The locality is also home to a Dark Sky Reserve, where the Milky Way's galactic bulge can be seen on a clear night.
I wanted to incorporate the mountains and the night sky representing the five incorporated cities of the county—as a majority of the residents see public lands and the environment as their biggest voting issues.
The adoption of the national DNC logotype to a local one is fairly straightforward, however is rendered compelling with local values. Out a that, a strong brand system has been developed.
The illustration of the pictogram is neat and tidy, yet has a bit of a grassroots vibe. But I craved for something distinguished in the color scheme: a muted indigo, medium grey, and white. All very calm, level-headed colors.
The two typefaces for the brand are Avenir (top line) and Didot (bottom line). Avenir as it is robust and modern. And Didot for institutional recognition and trustworthiness.
Whether on the website, on email, or on ad specialties, the brand remains very clear on its communication.
A major achievement of the new brand for the Blaine County Democrats is its versatility. The brand system allows for the promotion of fun, exciting events as well as allowing for formal messaging for agenda-setting and governing.
