A Thai descendent, Daphne is a reiki practitioner with deep roots in traditional energy healing. She was looking for a logo that would speak to her practice. Naming her service Lotus Essence Healing Touch, I knew that there was a wealth of ideas to work with. After developing some concepts, I knew that the obvious incorporation of a lotus flower was the clear way forward. But rather than going a naturalist, organic route, I wanted to delve into the energy, restorative side of her service. Equating reiki’s concept of flowing energy to the visible light spectrum, the flower is segmented into seven main petals, representing the seven main chakras. This segmentation also allowed me to layer and cut the petals into a beautiful art piece. To get the clear idea of aligning chakras, as she does in her practice, I decided to simply blast a ray of light through a lotus flower, including all of the visible colors of light—bright, vivid, and pure. White and grey supporting backgrounds allow the saturated colors to really make a striking impression on the viewer.
